Where to eat near Bodloesygad Holiday Cottage

There are a wide range of take-aways in Blaenau Ffestiniog, 3 miles away, including:
  • Fish and Chips
  • Chinese
  • Kebab Houses

Alternatively for a really good take away experience, get your fish and chips from Allports on Snowden St in Porthmadog. Then drive less than a mile to the car park in Borth-y-Gest, a very pretty fishing village, where you can eat overlooking the harbour and then walk along the coastal path towards Morfa Bwchan.

For a meal out, you will probably need to go a little further afield. Good quality pub food can be found in many places, including:
  • The Oakley Arms at Maentwrog – on the main A487 road towards Porthmadog, near Maentwrog.
  • Spooners Cafe and Bar Restaurant at the Ffestiniog Railway station in Porthmadog, just as you come into the town on the left. It has the added attraction of being able to watch the trains come in and out in the day and early evening. Best to book or get there early, as it can get pretty busy. Tel: 01766 516032
For a more substantial and up market meal, we would recommend the following, all of which serve vegetarian options:

Betws Bistro, in Betws-y-Coed.

They serve large ‘farmer sized’ helpings of good quality food sourced from local suppliers at very reasonable prices. They are open every evening in the summer and from Wed- Sunday evenings off season. They are also open for lunches. Booking for the evening is essential, as this is a very popular restaurant. Tel No: 01690 710328

Bwyty Mawddach Restaurant, near Dolgellau.

This is an excellent restaurant, with beautiful views over the river estuary and the Cader Idris mountain range. You get to this by turning right at the end of the track and left onto the A470 Dolgellau Road, and then taking the A496 on the right to Llanelltyd. They serve lunch from Wed to Sunday and dinner from Wed and Saturday. Always best to book well in advance if you want to get in. Tel: 0131 424026

Portmeirion Hotel.

They serve light lunches and afternoon tea on the terrace or hotel sitting rooms, and excellent evening meals and Sunday lunch in their dining room, all accessible to non residents. You could combine this with a visit to the village itself or simply book for Sunday lunch or dinner there. No: 01766 770000/ 772311

Alternatively you can eat lunch or evening meal in Castel Deudraeth Brasserie, which is part of the Portmeirion estate and on the drive to the village. They serve lunches and evening meals every day, and from there you can walk down the drive to the village itself. Tel: 01766 772400.
